The Glendale estate comprises the original period farmhouse and additional cottages on an eleven acre site incorporating a driveway lined with daffodils and rhododendrons, a small but dense wood leading to our paddock (which is ideal for giving your pony a holiday), a self-contained, fully private, heated, indoor, 10mx5m swimming pool. The Military Road closely follows the route of an earlier Roman road, the original course of which runs directly through the Glendale property.Glendale is within walking distance of Hadrian’s Wall World Heritage Site; and is situated centrally between Walltown Crags and Cawfields picnic area, two of the most picturesque views along the Wall. Welcome to Strand Cottage Bed & Breakfast in the heart of Hadrian’s Wall country.Our accommodation comprises of a large detached ensuite room with super king sized zip and link beds with memory foam mattresses, 2 comfortable chairs, fridge, colour TV/DVD player, clock radio and hot drinks tray and lovely large white bath sheets. There is a shower over the bath. This room can be set up as a double or twin bedded room. Access to this room is from the drive going up one step, so is suitable for people with walking difficulties. Dogs are allowed in this room only by prior arrangement but they may only be left alone in the room if in a cage. There is a guest lounge with log fire in inclement weather for use by guests staying in the main house. In the main house there is a double ensuite room with king size bed, memory foam mattress, colour TV/ DVD player, hot drinks tray, hairdryer and lovely white bath sheets. There is a pub in Bardon Mill which serves food and is only 10 minutes walk away.Situated centrally in the Hadrian’s Wall corridor this is an ideal location from which to visit all the major Roman sites and Kielder, the Lake District and many places of historical interest. Housesteads and Vindolanda (2 miles away) Roman sites are both a pleasant circular all day walk from Strand Cottage, taking in the most spectacular and highest parts of the Wall. We have secure lock up facilities for cycles and a drying room. There is an itinerary on our own website for walking the length of Hadrian’s Wall from our B&B using your car and the Hadrian’s Wall bus. There is a link above for our website. If staying for 5 or more days we have one free use of our laundry facilities.Packed lunches can be provided on request with 24 hrs notice.Carlisle with its Castle, Cathedral and Tullie House Museum are only a half hour away, and Newcastle with its many museums, art galleries and shopping is half an hour in the other direction. Newcastle airport is a short drive and the 685 bus from either Newcastle or Carlisle will stop outside our door on request. There is a train station in Bardon Mill.

The self contained holiday let, which comprises one half of the house, has two ensuite bedrooms, accommodates four people and is completely self contained. The accommodation can be increased up to six for an extra charge.Our house offers quiet accommodation off of the main road, yet is only a 10 minute walk from the centre of Hebden Bridge, and 5 minutes from the railway station with its excellent bus and train service.We have private established gardens and a patio area available for use by guests. The rear of the property backs directly on to the hillside with access to the hillside paths.The house is fully centrally heated and offers versatile accommodation. Halstead Green is a 5 double/twin bedroom former farm house and barn in Calderdale West Yorkshire. The area includes the towns of Hebden Bridge and Todmorden . The area lies about 10 miles from Bronte country and the town of Howarth, famous for the Bronte parsonage museum where literary family lived.The cultural centre of Hebden Bridge with its many independent shops, cafes and cinema is about 2 miles away and a short bus ride and Todmorden, with its traditional market and famous town hall is about 4 miles away. The area boasts many historic buildings, from weavers cottages and rural inns to former mills, often associated with the area’s long standing links to textile production. The surrounding countryside is highly accessible for walkers, horse riders and cyclists with wooded valleys, including the National Trust’s Hardcastle Crags, dry stone wall enclosed fields and rugged moorland and reservoirs “on the tops”, all on the doorstep. The Pennine Way passes within half a mile or so but there are many other footpaths, cycle routes and bridleways to exploreThe area lies between Manchester and Leeds .Halstead Green is in the hamlet of Colden, about two miles north-west of Hebden Bridge and near the historic village of Heptonstall. Land Farm open garden is located just along the lane. May’s shop is a general grocer and off-license and just a few minutes walk from Halstead Green. The New Delight Inn is also in Colden, serving food and drink and also hosting campers and caravanners.Th village of Heptonstall is about 1 miles from Colden. The writers Ted Hughes and Sylvia Plath spent their early married life near the village. Sylvia Plath is buried in Heptonstall churchyard. The Ted Hughes Arvon Centre, “>Lumb Bank , is between Colden and Heptonstall, and the house which once belonged to them. Heptonstall is an impressive medieval village, with a myriad of weavers cottages an other ancient buildings, the most notable being the ruined church. Heptonstall has two pubs, The White Lion and The Crown Inn, a cafe and a post office, all close together towards the bottom of the road through the vilage, Smithwell Lane.There is a regular bus service to and from Hebden Bridge. From Hebden Bridge (or Todmorden) there are buses to the surrounding towns and villages and direct trains towards Manchester (about 1/2 hour) or Leeds (about 1 hour). The recently restored unique Grade I Listed Piece Hall in Halifax hosts a range of events year round and includes independent shops, galleries and restaurants. The area has been used for many film and television locations in recent years including Happy Valley, Last Tango in Halifax and Peterloo.

Expect a warm welcome at Hebden Bridge Hostel, which provides accommodation in small dorms, private rooms and a 6-bed bunkroom, all en suite. Riverview bed and breakfast is situated on an elevated bank between the Rochdale canal and Calder river, less than a mile along the tow path from Callis Bridge, and is the closest accommodation to the Pennine Way at this point. It enjoys wonderful views of the surrounding hills and woodland that characterise this most southerly part of the Yorkshire Dales. Hebden Bridge town centre is a ten minute walk along the canal, where you can enjoy a vibrant and eclectic mix of cafes, restaurants, bars, shops, a theatre and the wonderful, historic Picture House. The famous Stubbing Wharf pub with its live music, storytelling, superb food and range of local and artisan ales is a 20 second walk from Riverview, in the other direction -great for weary walkers after a long day’s trek! Alternatively, we’re happy to recommend and book alternative restaurants if you wish to venture in to town.Riverview has one double and one twin room, each with its own bathroom. We offer a wide range of breakfasts and cater for vegetarian and vegans. In addition, we’re happy to provide a packed lunch to see you on your way. We have drying facilities if the weather is less than clement and a sun porch to store boots, poles and backpacks. You’re welcome to use the garden where there is a table and chairs overlooking the hillside and woods opposite. We are happy to welcome well-behaved dogs for a nominal charge of £5.00 per night.

This spacious terraced cottage will comfortably accommodate up to five guests with two bedrooms, and an additional room on the first floor with a futon-style sofa bed that can either be used as an additional living/reading room or as an additional sleeping space for the fifth person. The ground floor living area has dividing doors between the living room and kitchen, so the two rooms can either be separated or kept open-plan, making the space lovely and bright. Both Helen and Andy are qualified outdoor leaders and offer introductions to caving, climbing, walking and gorge scrambling in the Yorkshire Dales.
